Hello! My name is Elise Schemmel Shapiro (or better known by Jane Dolores) and I offer guitar, bass, and ukulele lessons to kids, teens, and adults in San Francisco and nearby cities. I graduated Cum Laude from Mount Holyoke College, with a major in music and education concentration. Drawing from my background as a multi-genre musician, composer, educator, and student of global music cultures, I design lessons that balance technical skill with creativity, curiosity, movement, and self-expression.

My teaching philosophy
Have you always wanted to play guitar? If so, it means you have a profound musical curiosity that needs to be explored as soon as possible. I am a music instructor who instructs students of all ages in a range of settings, from classrooms, to rock bands and groups, to one-on-one settings. This variety in experience gives me confidence that I can personality design lessons that fit each student's unique personality and interests. Throughout my teaching experience I have discovered that a curiosity-first approach to music is the most rewarding and enlightening.Whether you (or your child) is picking up the guitar for the very first time or already knows a few chords, I help students build confidence, stay motivated, curious, and most importantly, enjoy making music. I’m here to help you play the music you already love, while we also discover the new musical sounds that make you you. Additionally, my lessons are highly personalized and goal-oriented. Students learn to play songs they love while developing the core skills every musician needs, including:
